arrangements to take effect from the 1st. February, 1908, are
made, shall serve this Colony in the alternate weeks in which
it is not served under the existing contract with the Peninsu-
lar and Oriental Steamship Company, has been the subject of
recent correspondence with various Steamship Companies. As
you are aware the Goverment of the Straits Settlements has
entered into a contract with the British India Steam Navigation
Company for a service of this nature and its extension to
Hongkong, if the subsidy asked therefor is not too high, would
be desirable. I shall inform you if any reasonable basis for
such an arrangement can be settled.
